Summary:

Antibacterial activity of lactic acid bacteria: Lactobacillus plantarum L4, Lactobacillus plantarum Z88, Lactobacillus plantarum PS9 and Lactobacillus sp. J91 was investigated against the test microorganisms: Staphylococcus aureus 3048, Staphylococcus aureus K-144, Escherichia coli 3014, Salmonella mumum, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 and Enterococcus faecium. The antibacterial effect of the diluted and nondiluted Lactobacillus cultures supernatants on the growth of the test microorganisms was examined turbidimetrically i.e. by measuring the apparent absorbance at 460 nm. The lactic acid bacteria strains showed inhibitory activity against all mentioned test microorganisms. The consequence of antibacterial activity is the decrease of the specific growth rate or the cessation of the test microorganism growth.
